VollaOS – System – Settings

Android 15 (Codename: Vanilla Ice Cream) is the fifteenth major version of the mobile operating system Android, on which VollaOS is based. It brings improvements in areas such as privacy, performance, and user interface. The focus is on enhanced privacy features, such as Private Space and theft protection, as well as optimizations for foldables and tablets. In VollaOS, proprietary Google services are replaced with alternatives, and there are additional features like Multi-Boot and extended security modes.

The System Settings in Android 15 are accessible via the Settings app, which has a gear icon. They are divided into categories that may vary depending on the version level. This article describes the main sections and their subgroups.

1. Network & Internet

This category manages connections and network settings.

Internet

Displays available Wi-Fi networks, allows connecting to and forgetting networks. In Android 15, there are improved privacy options such as randomized MAC addresses for public networks.

SIM Card

Configures mobile data, calls, and SMS for one or more SIM cards. Supports eSIM and dual-SIM management.

Airplane Mode

Quickly disables all wireless connections.

Ethernet Manager

For wired connections, rare on mobile devices but available for tablets or with adapters.

Hotspot and Tethering

Shares the internet connection via Wi-Fi hotspot, USB tethering, or Bluetooth.

Data Saver (on or off)

Reduces data usage by restricting background data.

VPN

Adds and manages VPN connections, with support for Always-on VPN.

Private DNS

Allows configuration of a private DNS server for encrypted DNS queries (e.g., DNS over TLS).

2. Connected Devices

Manages pairings and connections to external devices.

USB (Options)

Selects modes such as file transfer, MIDI, or PTP when connected via USB.

Pair New Device

Scans for and pairs Bluetooth devices.

Saved Devices

Lists paired devices and allows removal.

Connection Settings (Bluetooth, NFC, Streaming, Printing)

Enables/disables Bluetooth and NFC, configures casting (e.g., to Chromecast), and printers.

Android 15 improves NFC for seamless payments.

3. Apps

Central hub for app management.

Lists installed apps with options to uninstall, disable, or manage permissions.

Default Apps

Sets default apps for browser, SMS, launcher, and telephony.

Note:

For telephony, please set the desired app as default and then disable the unwanted app to avoid conflicts.

Currently, the use of the AOSP app (white-blue) is recommended. The FOSS app (green) proves to be not 100% stable and has a reduced feature set.

Cloned Apps

Allows cloning apps for multi-account use (in some ROMs).

Manage Micro-G (on or off)

In degoogled systems like VollaOS: Enables microG for Google services compatibility without real Google integration.

Cloud Media App

Manages cloud-based media apps.
